10-Minute Passing (Bumping) Drill
Goal: consistent, controlled passes using a clean platform.
1) Platform check (1 min)
- Arms extended, hands together (clasped or one fist wrapped by the other)
- Flat surface from wrists to elbows — this is the “platform”
- Bend the knees, not the arms
2) Wall passing (4 min)
- Stand 5 feet from a wall. Pass the ball against the wall and receive it back.
- Focus: angle the platform to control direction. Don’t swing the arms — use your legs.
- 20 consecutive passes is a good target.
3) Shuffle and pass (3 min)
- Start in the middle of a 10-foot space. Toss the ball left, shuffle, pass it back to center. Then right.
- 10 reps each direction.
4) Low balls (2 min)
- Toss the ball low (knee height). Get under it, platform up. 10 reps.
Passing is the most important skill in volleyball. A team that passes well will beat a team with better hitters almost every time.
